The project Consequences of Factory Farmed Food uses a mix of virtual reality, digital illustration, and photographs to show some consequences for the choices we make regarding the foods we choose to eat. It is inspired by the books “The Omnivore’s Dilemma” by Michael Pollan, and “Food, Animals, and the Environment: An Ethical Approach,” by Christopher Schlottmann and Jeff Sebo, which both talk about the amount of choice we have when choosing which foods we eat, yet we are not really aware of all the implications of those choices mean. People are often mislead by clever marketing of the food industry that attempts to cover up what is behind the scenes. Even if people know that animals have to die in order to feed the world with their flesh, they may not know the conditions in which the animals are raised and the torture they go through before ending up at the supermarkets. The consequences shown are the culling of male chicks in the egg industry, the process of raising chickens to slaughter in factory farms, the process of obtaining milk from cows in factory farms, and how factory farming’s huge amounts of manure and fertilizer causes dead zones in the ocean.
